County Convention Saturday, April 16, 2016

County Convention Saturday, April 16, 2016

Delegates to the annual county convention have been elected (at the precinct meetings) and now the officers are planning this important event!  It will be held Saturday April 16 at 10:00 am at the Historic Courthouse on the square in downtown Newton. Registration starts at 9:30 am.

We will elect delegates to the district conventions to be held May 21, and to the state convention to be held June 11.  We will also elect 2 members to each of these committees:  Prosecutorial Executive Committee; State Senatorial District Executive Committee; State House of Representatives District Executive Committee.

We will discuss and vote on any Resolutions brought forth by any precinct.

Finally, we will be discussing opportunities for volunteering as we move into the 2016 general election campaign season.

Food!  We won’t have access to the side room this year, so please don’t bring any food.  Instead we are offering the following option for lunch to be enjoyed with your fellow Democrats after the convention.

Marie and Twannette’s, on the square, will prepare boxed lunches priced at $7.   You can pre-order by either contacting Delene (email or leaving a message on our machine at 828-322-5100.  Please state your choice of sandwich: Turkey/American cheese, OR Ham/Swiss OR Chicken Salad OR Pimento Cheese OR Egg Salad.  Your sandwich may have Wheat or White bread; we’ll let the Sandwich Maker choose if you don’t specify.  You may choose one side:  Pasta Salad, Potato Salad, or Potato Chips.  If you don’t specify, we will let Marie or Twannette choose one for you.  Your boxed lunch will also include a beverage and a cookie.

We will collect the money at registration before the convention.

Precinct Chairs have been asked to contact the delegates that were elected at the precinct meetings, to remind them about the convention.

And if you’re not sure whether you are a delegate, please come!  The convention is open to all registered Democrats, however only elected delegates or their proxies may vote on any business that comes before the convention.
