On June 24, the State Executive Committee convened on the campus of NC State University in Raleigh to handle Party business. Catawba County had its full SEC delegation present in-person (a Zoom option was available) with Doug Auer joining to represent the 10th Congressional District and Matt Sadinsky representing the new North Carolina Democratic Jewish Caucus. Guest speakers included a number of candidates for statewide office: Elaine Marshall, Rachel Hunt, Allison Riggs, David Wheeler, Braxton Winston and Beth Wood.
Following the SEC meeting, a number of Catawba Democrats attended the Unity Dinner where lively remarks were made from Governor Cooper, Attorney General Josh Stein and Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes.
Headquarters is busy with activity preparing for the upcoming elections across Catawba County. This year is all about municipal elections: Eight municipalities in our county, e.g., Catawba, Claremont, and Conover, have 26 seats on the ballot. Our candidate recruitment committee is busy at work finding candidates to contest as many seats as possible. If you have an interest in running for officer, or know someone who may, please contact committee lead Lynn Dorfman at lynndorfman@gmail.com. 1st Vice Chair Flavia Dietrich is leading our strategic plan committee to refresh and update the key objectives and tasks we’ll need to undertake to elect democrats. Our refreshed strategic plan is targeted to be completed in early August. Notable upcoming events: Please join us at headquarters on July 15 at 7 p.m. for a social with Senator Rachel Hunt, who is running for NC Lt. Governor. We will also be presenting our Volunteer of the Year Award to a very deserving Catawba County Democrat. Light refreshments will be provided. Century Club will be held at 6 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 19 at Hart Square in Vale. Invitations and sponsor solicitations are on the way to your mailbox. We’ll have two exceptional guest speakers and remarks from several candidates. Please make plans to join us at our signature event as we gather and raise funds to elect Democrats! Vote Blue!
